Around 1820 in Haywood County, NC, he married Annie Cook (b. 10/04/1800 in Duplin County, NC; d. ca. 10/1877 in Clay County, NC), daughter of John and Elizabeth Cook (Elizabeth's maiden name is unknown). According to an article in the July 23, 1992, issue of the Clay County Progress, Abner and Cook settled at the head of Shooting Creek in present-day Clay County, NC, in 1825, one of the first couples to live in that area. Abner purchased thousands of acres of land, spanning fifteen to twenty miles, at a cost of fifty cents per acre. The 1852 census listed Abner as producing a thousand bushels of corn and owning fifty sheep, a hundred cattle, a hundred hogs, and ten mules.

Around October of 1877, Cook died and was buried in Little Brasstown Baptist Church Cemetery, Clay County. Three months later, Abner moved to Cocke County, TN. He remarried on April 21, 1878, to Louisa Roberts. They had two children:

  1. Bonnie Octavia
  2. Robert

On August 26, 1884, Abner Senter Moore died in Cocke County.
