Warren Allen was born in 1829 in Georgia, in what is today Towns County. His parents were Lemuel Allen and Barbary Edwards. His paternal grandfather was John Allen of Rutherford County, NC.
On December 16, 1847, in old Union County, GA, Warren was married to Clarinda Rogers (b. 1830 in Buncombe County, NC; d. ca. 1895 in Cherokee County, NC) by Justice of the Peace G.L. Smith. Clarinda was the daughter of Jeremiah (b. 1784 in VA) and Elizabeth (b. 1782 in NC) Rogers (Elizabeth's maiden name is unknown). She and Warren reared ten children:
By 1850, Warren and Clarinda were living in Polk County, TN, and they had moved to the Shoal Creek district of Cherokee County, NC, by 1860. According to the 1860 census, Warren farmed 25 acres of land. He had sixteen hogs and raised wheat, corn, tobacco, potatoes, wool, butter, and molasses.
On February 13, 1863, Warren Allen enlisted in the Confederate army. He was a cavalryman, serving as a private in Company H of the 1st Battalion, Thomas' Legion.
After service, Warren continued to farm, and heard small cases as a Justice of the Peace.
David Lemuel "Warren" Allen died in 1898 in Cherokee County, NC. He is buried beside Clarinda in the Allen Family Cemetery in Suit, NC.
