Harve McGinnis Moore

Harve was born February 04, 1887, in Clay County, NC, to Thomas Covington Moore and California Caldwell. He unwittingly married a distant cousin, Delta Mae Arthur (b. 06/30/1891, d. 05/21/80) of Murray County, GA, on 01/09/10 in Benton, TN (Harve and Delta had the same great-grandparents, Abner Senter and Ann Cook Moore). They reared seven children who lived to adulthood:

  1. Arthur Paul, born 06/07/14; married Verna Rabes of Omaha, NE; died 01/17/78.
  2. Gladys Ruth, born 12/28/16; married Oscar Neal Jarrett (b. 09/14/09) of Clay County, NC, on 03/09/35.
  3. Willis Quentin, born 06/06/19; married Ruth Annette Eldredge of Hastings, NE; died 01/23/81.
  4. Harve McGinnis, Junior, born 02/06/22; married Marylyn "Gingy" Jones of Clay County, NC; died 08/14/90.
  5. Martha Joan, born 06/23/25; married Frank Eugene Rockwell of Atlanta, GA.
  6. Oakley Lanier, born 06/16/30; married Loette Wilson of Towns County, GA.
  7. Franklin Wendell, born 09/29/32; married Eula Mae Allen (b. 04/13/44) of Cherokee County, NC, on 07/23/69 at Sweetwater Baptist Church in Clay County, NC, Rev. Aud Brown officiating.

Harve's careers included teaching, farming corn and tobacco, and serving on the Clay County Commission, in the NC House of Representatives, and in the NC Senate. He also taught Sunday school at the First United Methodist Church, Hayesville, NC.

In 1960, Harve received an invitation to the presidential inauguration of John F. Kennedy. The invitation is now held by his son, Wendell Moore, and family, and is a treasured heirloom.

Harve died at his residence in the Tusquitee community of Clay County on September 14, 1973, and was buried in the Baptist-Presbyterian Cemetery, Clay County, NC.
