Laura Elizabeth Walker

Laurie was born on May 30, 1879, in Cherokee County, NC, to Joseph Hughes Walker (b. 11/06/1850, d. 01/24/1940) and Mary Jane Craig (b. 09/05/1850, d. 09/11/1927). Her paternal grandparents were James Harvey Walker and Rebecca Eaton. Laura and William Ervin Stiles (b. 01/15/1874, d. 02/08/1962), also of Cherokee County, were married by Justice of the Peace William Suit on August 19, 1894. The couple had eleven children:

  1. Mary Ethel, born June 12, 1895; married first Lester Ervin Collins (b. 02/12/1893, d. 05/25/35) on July 31, 1913; married second Nuel Lafate Tate (b. 04/06/1894, d. 03/25/73) on August 22, 1936; died June 08, 1991.
  2. William Fred, born March 12, 1898; married Estie Clark; deceased.
  3. Eva Normalee, born February 26, 1900; married Auzie Beaver on April 12, 1914; died October, 1984.
  4. Harve Fletcher, born April 10, 1902; married Myrtle Montegomery; deceased.
  5. Edgar Fare, born April 24, 1904; married Mattie Montegomery (Myrtle's sister); died January, 1965.
  6. Grady Clifford, born April 27, 1906; married Dovey Marrow; deceased.
  7. Bonnie Marie, born July 16, 1908; married first Ed Anderson, married second Floyd Stiles; died May 30, 1986, buried at Gastonia, NC.
  8. Laura Mae Belle, born December 13, 1910; married Enoch Napoleon Allen (b. 11/01/1895, d. 10/07/78); died September 04, 1992, buried at Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery, Suit, NC.
  9. Creed John Hughes, born June 22, 1913; married Virginia Standeridge; died September 07, 1989, buried at Clinton, TN.
  10. Claude Westley, born March 27, 1916; married Winona Clonce; died October 18, 2000, buried at Greenlawn Cemetery, Peachtree, NC.
  11. Harrison Emery, born February 15, 1918; died in infancy.

Laurie died on December 11, 1967, and is buried beside William at Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery, Suit, NC.
