Martha Jane Moore

Martha Jane Moore was born February 19, 1861, in Fannin County, GA, the daughter of Reverend John Moore and Catherine Watson. Her paternal grandparents were Abner S. Moore and Ann Cook, who settled in the Shooting Creek area of Clay County, NC. Her maternal grandparents were George Watson and Frances Gribble. On November 30, 1881, Martha married Willis Smith Arthur (b. 12/15/1860, d. 11/13/1836) of Polk County, TN. He was the son of Felix "Pete" Arthur and Mary "Polly" Lowery. Martha and Willis reared six children:

  1. Lucretia S., born 02/1888; married Rosco Hopkins; date of death unknown, buried at Hopewell Church Cemetery, Doogan, Murray Co., GA.
  2. Ernest Camille, born 09/16/1889; married first Johnnie Lou Cook; married second Nannie Lou Brewer (01/07/1904-12/1984); died 04/24/1946, buried at Summehour Church Cemetery, Crandall, Murray Co., GA.
  3. Delta Mae, born 06/30/1891; married Harve McGinnis Moore (02/04/1887-09/14/73); died 05/21/1980, buried in Baptist-Presbyterian Cemetery, Clay Co., NC.
  4. James Taylor, born 08/21/1893; married first Ida Souther; married second Bertie Greene; died November 1972, buried at Fairy Valley Church Cemetery, Crandall, Murray Co., GA.
  5. Mary Catherine, married John Edwards; died 02/19/1936, buried at Hopewell Church Cemetery, Doogan, Murray Co., GA.
  6. Bethel, married Blaine Baker; date of death unknown, buried at Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery, Tennga, Murray Co., GA.

Martha Jane Moore died February 09, 1946. She and Willis are buried at Hopewell Church Cemetery, Doogan, Murray County, GA.
