Matthew Talbot, son of Charles Talbot, was born September 26, 1699 at Castle
Talbot, Wexford, Ireland. The family immigrated to Maryland, then Matthew moved
to Virginia and married Mary Williston (1697-10/1736) in 1722. They had four
sons:
Charles, born November 26, 1723; married Drusilla Gwin; died 1799.
Matthew, Junior, born November 27, 1729; married first Mary Hale
Day; married second Agnes Hayes; died 1812.
James, born November 07, 1733; married Elizabeth Smith; died 1777.
John, born 1735; married first Sarah Anthony; married second Mary
Phebe Moseley; died 1798.
Mary died in 1736. The next year, Matthew remarried to Jane Clayton. The
couple had two chilren:
Isham, born November 03, 1738; married Elizabeth Davis; died 1825.
The Talbots were living in Lunenburg County, VA, when it was divided to form
Bedford County. The first court held in Bedford was in Matthew's home, in May
1754. Matthew was made colonel of the Bedford County militia, with his son James
being made lieutenant, in 1755. He was appointed to the office of county sheriff
in 1757.
Matthew Talbot died in 1758.
